ChaCha Work at Home Update

In a previous post I talked about ChaCha, a company that provides a real work at home opportunity. I thought I'd update you all on how well it has worked for me!

In the beginning, I was averaging $5. an hour. Now I average $8. an hour, and have made up to $13. an hour. The more time I have spent answering queries on ChaCha, the faster and more efficient I've become. I have had no trouble being paid, and since May 2008 I've made over $2,000.! So this is legit.

ChaCha has made some changes to the pay structure, and will likely re-evaluate these changes soon and make new ones. It is a growing company, and this is not to be unexpected.

If you want to apply to work for ChaCha, go to www.chacha.com and click on "Become a Guide". When you fill out the form, please enter i.think_ican@yahoo.com into the referral box. Also feel free to send me an email at that address to let me know you are signing up, and ask for any help you need. I'm happy to assist you in becoming a successful ChaCha Guide!

If you have heard of Pinecone Research, you probably have been trying to find a banner so you can sign up. If you haven't heard of it, here is some info:

Pinecone Research Company is a survey companies that pays its members $2. or $3. for each survey completed. They pay every time, very consistently. I recently received an email from Pinecone telling me I can invite people to join! If you want to join Pinecone, send me an email at ohsacademy@yahoo.com with Pincone Invite in the subject field. I'll send you the invite!

ChaCha- Work from home to make real money!

I recently learned about ChaCha from my brother. He said to get right on it, and I dragged my feet thinking this was just another online work from home scam. Once I got signed up and accepted as a Guide, I learned different! I started almost a month ago, and have made about $600. I have also been paid! This is not a scam or scheme- it is for real! Here is a breakdown-

About ChaCha-
This company is basically a human-powered search engine. They have been around since 2006 and their first idea didn't really take off- doing searches from regular internet users by having them ask questions through their website. Once folks are online, they can Google for themselves. This year they came up with a new plan that is brilliant. They do searches for mobile phone (cell phone) users who either call or text a question. The answer is found by a real, live, ChaCha Guide and sent back to the user by text message!

Being a Guide-
As a ChaCha Guide, I sign into my ChaCha Guide account at my home computer and wait for a question. I hear a ding-dong to signal a question, I hit the accept button, and read the question. I then find the answer, type it out, and hit send. Most questions take me less than 2 minutes to complete. I get paid for each answer I provide.

How I got started-
I signed up, using my brother as my referrer. I first had to take 3 short tests that tested my typing ability and a couple other things. After that, I filled out my tax information (ChaCha Guides are Independent Contractors and ChaCha files a 1099 with the IRS). I then checked out the forums, studied the material I was asked to study, and took my simulator test. About 24 hours later I got an email from ChaCha saying I was accepted as a Guide and could log in to take questions right away.

Payment-
ChaCha Text Guides are paid 20 cents per answer. I average $5. an hour, though many Guides make more than I do, and some less. It mostly depends on the traffic. Most of the time it is steady, and when it is slow I use the time to check and send email, watch videos on WebridesTV (which gives me points toward Amazon GC's), and check my forums. ChaCha offers two payment options- Monthly Direct Deposit into your checking account, or a Pay Me Now option where you get an account at the First Internet Bank of Indiana. With that account you get a Debit Card so you can withdraw your money at any ATM or use it at the store like any debit card. I chose the second option. It took less than two weeks to get it all set up and get my card, and my first withdrawal was for $330.

How you can be a ChaCha Guide!
Follow this link to ChaCha's Become a Guide page and sign up! Use me as your referrer- I have noticed more Guides get accepted if they are referred. Also, feel free to email me for more information or help getting started. This is my referral and contact email for Chacha- i.think_ican@yahoo.com.

$5. Coupon for Science Diet

I've noticed Science Diet coupons can be hard to come by, so when I found this I thought I'd share. You just have to sign up to be a member of their club (not much spam, I promise) or sign in if you are already signed up.

Science Diet $5. coupon

Another way I have found to get Science Diet coupons is to call and ask. This will only work a couple times a year. They will say they don't give out coupons, but will ask for your address and usually send you a couple anyway.

Making Money Online by Working From Home

On my blog I have listed free stuff, survey sites, and other ways to earn money and Amazon GC's online. I have mentioned a few other ways to make money online, but haven't really gone into ways to work from home and make cash online.

Today I'll tell you about some ways to earn money online- actual money that will pay the rent. There is no easy way to make a lot of money (absent illegal activities) but you can make some- depends on how hard you work.

Associated Content- On this website you earn money by writing about anything you want, making and uploading videos and audio files. Some examples would be: How-To videos, audio files of written material, songs you create, original news reporting, poems, product reviews, TV show reviews, political rantings, ect. I have earned about $79. so far. They sometimes pay you a certain amount upfront for something you write, and even if they don't you get paid for page views.

DayTipper- This one is easy- you submit tips on any subject and if accepted they'll pay you. They have recently changed how much they pay, I think it is $1. per tip now. They will pay you via PayPal when they publish your tip on their site. I have earned about $10. here, and have only spent about 1/2 hour submitting tips.

ExpoTV-This site pays for your product review videos. Use your digital video camera, or even a webcam to make videos. I haven't made any for this site yet, so haven't been paid. I'm still learning the whole video camera thing :)

eHow- You can earn money by writing how-to articles and creating how-to videos. This one's on my to-do list.

Pizza Hut Deals

Pizza Hut is my favorite pizza place! Ok, maybe that has something to do with the fact that they are the ONLY pizza place in town- but they are still better than BK. I have searched for coupons and codes and found a few worth mentioning. Also, you should know that I live in a tiny town that does not have online ordering- so when I order I just call and say I have such and such coupon code from online. They have never refused one yet!

Link to coupon for $3. off your order (no minimum purchase)- This coupon doesn't have an expiration date so just right click on the coupon, save image, and Voila! You can print this out anytime you want! Expired 7/1/08

List of coupon codes- This site is the best I've found for a list of coupon codes. Remember, just because a coupon has a low success percentage doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try- especially if you are ordering by phone! Update- Most of these won't work anymore, and most restaurants won't take coupon codes over the phone anymore either. 7/1/08

What I am doing here

I have enjoyed posting this blog. The reason I started it was to make money online so I could stay home with my child (who I homeschool) and to have fun. Well, I have had fun! I enjoy finding free things and awesome deals online and posting them here. I really like having a space where people can find real free stuff.

Unfortunately, this blog as a money-making machine is a bust. Since I started this blog last Oct. or Nov. I have grossed exactly $0.89. Now I never expected to get rich or anything, but at least $20. a month would keep me going.

It takes a lot of time to find freebies and check them out to make sure they are legit. I spent at least 4 hours in January just for the Radon Awarenesss Month posts, as I noticed on other sites that people were having a hard time finding info for their state. Each day that I post a "today's freebies" post, I have spent at least an hour finding and posting the freebies. The longer the list of freebies, the longer I spent on it.

I really love doing this, but it takes up a lot of time that I probably should be using elsewhere online to make some money. I'm going to post a poll- please tell me what you think. Would you be willing to make a small PayPal donation to keep this blog going? Would taking the ads off the blog help?
I'll try to post more freebies in the coming weeks- please vote in the poll.

New Site to Earn Amazon GC's

Today I found a new (or new to me at least!) website where it is easy to earn Amazon gift certificates. I found out about it on Tipblog, and here is what they said:

"WebRidesTV is a relatively new car-related website where you can earn points for doing various activities on the site. The easiest (I think) is by watching videos about cars. It'll earn you 10 points per video, and you don't have to watch the entire video to get the credit. You can actually open the videos in different windows and get credit for it, speeding up the process a lot. All together, you can earn around 240 points a day. I got my points in for today in about 2 minutes.
5500 points = a $50 Amazon GC! That's about 3 weeks of clicking! Pretty amazing, considering the (small) amount of effort involved! There are a lot of other prizes you can redeem for as well, including a Wii, an iPhone, a PS3, a Tom Tom One GPS, Crutchfield GCs, caps, Hot Wheels cars, and many more items as well!"

I signed up today, and it looks promising! They give a lot of points for referrals, so if you would be so kind as to email me for an invite I would appreciate it!
If you prefer to go directly there to sign up, here is the link- WebRides

File your Taxes for Free

I recently found out that there are still many people who don't know they can file their federal income tax for free. So here is my announcement: If you make under about $55,000 a year you can file your taxes electronically, through the internet, for free.

Go to irs.gov and click on "use free file to file your taxes". You will be given a choice of a large variety of companies to use. Click the link of the company of your choice, and follow the instructions. This is very easy, and the software will guide you through the entire process. If you were to go to H&R Block to do your taxes, the only difference is you would pay over $100. and a tax preparer would input your information on the forms instead of you.

Some tax tips you may not know:

-If you are very low income (under $25,000) taking deductions may actually reduce the amount of your refund. When using the tax software, input your income and dependent information as usual but do not take deductions for daycare or anything else. Record the amount of your refund, then do the tax return with deductions. See which option affords you a larger refund. Although you are entitled to use deductions, you are not required to.

-Double check all social security numbers you are using on your tax forms. Also make sure the name you file under is the same as is on your social security card. For instance, when I married I changed my name on my social security card. When I divorced, I switched back to my maiden name but I haven't taken the time to change the name on my social security card. If I were to try to file under my maiden name (which is on my W-4), my tax return may not process correctly.

-My lawyer says I have to tell you I am not a professional tax preparer, or an accountant, nor do I work for the IRS. Any advice I give is not really advice but rather suggestions based on my personal experience and the extensive research I have undertaken in the subject of low income tax preparation.

Radon Awareness Month

After my previous post about Michigan's free Radon Kits, I did some research and found some other states are having promotions for this month. Radon Awareness Month is January 2008. Check for your state below for more information. Update 2/16/08-Now that Radon Awareness Month is over, most of the offers I listed here are no longer valid. Today I am deleting all expired offers. If you do not find your state listed below, it is because they are no longer offering free test kits.

A coupon for a free test kit may be obtained HERE. I am unsure whether this coupon will be honored, but it is worth a try.
Delaware-Free radon test kits are available to all Delawareans and can be requested by calling (302) 744-4857. These test kits consist of a canister or envelope containing charcoal. To begin the test, the homeowner simply opens the canister, exposing the charcoal. The charcoal absorbs radon gases which exist in the home. In four to seven days, the container is sealed and mailed (postage is even pre-paid) to the laboratory for testing. Results will be sent to the homeowner in approximately one week.
Georgia- Free radon test kits are available. Click HERE for a list of where to get your free test kit in Georgia.
Illinois- IEMA is offering free radon test kits to help people test their homes. Requests for test kits can be submitted through the agency’s Web site at http://www.radon.illinois.gov/ or toll-free hotline at 1-800-325-1245

Oil Heat Program- 100 Gallons of home heating oil

This is only a "kind-of" freebie. This program provides 100 gallons of heating oil to needy households in certain cold weather states. This isn't a freebie, per say, but rather an assistance program. As there are many Americans living in poverty or near poverty and often assistance is hard to find, I thought I would include non-government assistance programs both for the needy to get some help and for those who can contribute to have some options to give to programs that directly help individuals and families with everyday needs.

Heating Oil Program- You will need to call them to find out how to apply. They did have an online application but don't right now. I believe assistance is still available, just give them a call. The website gives information on how to contribute.
